CARE GUIDE

Water

Water your fig tree abundantly when the top layer of soil dries 2-3 cm deep. If it is cool in the room in autumn and winter, reduce watering.

Light

Put your plant right in front of a bright window that gets a lot of direct sunlight for at least 8 hours per day, the plant should be located not further than 1 meter from this window. You should better use grow lights to provide your plant with the right amount of light if you don't have a place with direct bright light. Using grow lights is also essential during all the winter season for this plant as UV level is not enough during this period.

Fertilization

Feed your plant once a month from spring to autumn. Use a complex mineral fertilizer for decorative leafy plants. Do not feed the plant in winter.

Humidity

Fig Trees prefer high humidity level, so moisture the leaves regularly in spring and summer period. Regularly wipe the foliage with a damp soft cloth.

Repotting

Repot young plants annually, older ones - once in 2-3 years. A new pot should be slightly larger than the old one. The soil should be water and air permeable. First pour a layer of expanded clay and some soil at the bottom of the pot. Move the plant to a new pot and fill all the voids with fresh potting mix. Water the plant after repotting.

Rotation

Rotating houseplants is important for providing the plant with even light exposure. It helps to ensure that all parts of the plant get enough light and helps to prevent the plant from becoming lopsided or leaning in one direction due to uneven light exposure. The best way to rotate your houseplants is to turn them a quarter turn each week in the same direction. That way, each side of the plant will get equal amounts of light.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to transplant a plant after purchase?

No, our plants are already transplanted into our exclusive 5-component soil mix, designed for optimal growth and health. You won’t need to repot them immediately. However, after 6–12 months, you may consider repotting based on the plant’s growth.

How are the plants packed?

We use secure, insulated packaging with protective materials to keep plants safe during transit. In cold weather, we include heat packs to prevent temperature stress and ensure plants arrive in perfect condition.

Are your plants locally grown?

Yes! Our plants are locally grown and fully acclimated to thrive in your environment. They are cultivated under controlled conditions to ensure long-term health and easy adaptation to your home.

How should I care for plants after delivery?

After receiving your plant:

  • Unpack it immediately and check the soil moisture.
  • Place it in bright, indirect light (or under a grow lamp if needed).
  • Water only if necessary—our exclusive soil mix retains moisture well.
  • Allow it to adjust for a few days before making any changes to its care routine.

How should I choose my first plant ever?

If you’re new to houseplants, we recommend starting with a low-maintenance, resilient plant that thrives with minimal care. You can explore our Easy-Care Plants collection, which includes ZZ plants, snake plants, and pothos and many more plants, all of which adapt well to different home environments and require little watering or attention.

Indoor Fig Tree — Grow Fresh Figs at Home with This Beautiful Fruit Tree

The Indoor Fig Tree (Ficus carica) is one of the most rewarding fruit trees you can grow at home. Loved for its distinctive lobed leaves, compact growth habit, and delicious sweet fruit, the fig tree brings a touch of the Mediterranean to bright Canadian homes, sunrooms, and patios. With proper care and plenty of sunlight, mature trees can produce an abundance of homegrown figs, making them both ornamental and productive.

Unlike many tropical fruit trees, fig trees are relatively easy to grow and adapt well to container life. Their attractive foliage creates a lush, architectural focal point in any room, while their edible fruit offers the unique satisfaction of harvesting fresh figs right from your own tree. During the warmer months, many homeowners enjoy moving their fig trees outdoors to a sunny deck, balcony, or patio, where they can benefit from additional sunlight and fresh air.

Every Fig Tree at Planteia is locally grown, professionally repotted into our exclusive 5-component soil mix, and carefully acclimated to Canadian growing conditions. This gives your tree the strongest possible start and helps reduce transplant stress after arrival. Simply place it in the brightest location available, water when the top layer of soil becomes dry, and watch your tree flourish season after season.

Whether you're an experienced gardener looking to grow your own fruit indoors or a beginner searching for a beautiful and rewarding houseplant, the Indoor Fig Tree is an exceptional choice. Combining elegant foliage, edible harvests, and surprisingly easy care requirements, it's a plant you'll enjoy for many years to come.
